About this reference material
Melanotan I is a synthetic 13 amino acid peptide in which the methionine at position 4 of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) is replaced by norleucine and the phenylalanine at position 7 by its D-isomer. These substitutions increase resistance to enzymatic degradation compared with the native sequence. It is characterized in receptor pharmacology literature as an agonist with high affinity for the melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R), and is used as a reference ligand in melanocortin receptor binding and cAMP signalling assays.
